10th annual Cookies for Kids' Cancer LUCIPAT’S fundraiser

Posted

Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, is a national nonprofit that has funded more than $23 million in research for new, improved and less toxic treatments for kids battling cancer. This September, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Patty Tomlinson, a longtime Newtown resident, will host her 10th annual Cookies for Kids' Cancer LUCIPAT’S fundraiser, a community tradition that has raised over $40,000 to support safer, less toxic treatments for pediatric cancer. It will take place Saturday, September 20 from 12 - 4pm at The Newton Brewing Company, located at 103 Penns Trail in Newtown.

Patty’s annual event is best known for its massive raffle, which has become the highlight of the day. Friends, neighbors and local businesses come together to donate baskets, gift cards and their time, making it one of the area’s most feel-good ways to give back.

Patty began fundraising to honor kids fighting cancer and help close the gap in research funding for pediatric cancers, which are often treated with outdated therapies.

This year’s event carries even deeper meaning after the loss of her older brother, Dominic, to pancreatic cancer. Despite his own battle, Dominic attended last year’s fundraiser to support her, an act that now fuels her mission. Patty has seen what this horrible disease does to adults, and can’t even fathom how it impacts children. His memory lives on as the heartbeat of her efforts, with “TEAM DOMINIC” still bringing the community together.
