Next month, a Bucks County conference will bring together animal advocates, environmentalists and community members for a day of discussions focused on strengthening the human-animal bond and encouraging more sustainable choices.
The Annual Compassion for Animals and Environment Conference (CAE) is being held at Bucks County Community College, Rollins Center Gallagher Room, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The conference is sponsored by the Bucks County Community College Business Innovation and Legal Studies Department.
Organizers say the conference is designed to promote respect for animals’ emotions and intelligence, increase reliance on plant-based foods, encourage kindness toward the environment and its inhabitants, and strengthen connections between people and animals.
The program will feature speakers and exhibitors addressing those themes while encouraging attendees to consider their own relationships with animals and ways they can incorporate more plant-based choices into their daily lives.
Speakers include Nadia Steiner of Project Coyote, who will discuss compassion toward the Earth and its inhabitants; Carolyn Schultz and Tiana Thomas of Tabby’s Place, who will focus on the human-animal bond; and representatives from the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, who will discuss animal emotions and intelligence.
Josh Marquez of The Humane League will address plant-based eating, while Cheryl Baldi of the Volta Center for Writing Arts will perform an original poem.
Registration costs $30 per person and includes coffee, an individual vegan breakfast bar, a vegan boxed lunch catered by V-Spot Restaurant in New Hope, access to speakers and exhibitors, and a donation to an animal protection organization. Fat Badger Bakery will provide cookies.
The student registration rate is $20, and scholarships are available. Seating is limited, and attendees must register by Sept. 12.
