Andy Scarpati loves to laugh, and in the late 1970s when he was a teacher at Pennsbury Schools he started doing stand-up comedy. As you may know, LAUGHTER is very therapeutic, and makes you feel good!
In 1980, Scarpati left teaching to pursue a career in comedy, but not as a comedian; he wanted to open a comedy club. Everyone told him it wasn’t going to work. Even his friends said, “nobody is going to come see comedians they don’t know.”
Despite what others were saying, he opened his first comedy club in Wilmington, Delaware in November of 1980. The club was so successful that in April of 1987, he opened another comedy cabaret right here in Bucks County. For the past 38 years, over 500,000 people have laughed at his Bucks County Comedy Cabaret.
The comedy club has also hosted over 1,000 Funny Fundraisers for sports teams and civic groups. One question Scarpati has been asked repeatedly over the years is “has anyone ever played here and become famous?” The answer is, YES! Jay Leno played in his Delaware comedy club in 1982. Kevin James of “King of Queens” and “Mall Cop” and Joe Rogan both performed in his Bucks County Comedy Cabaret in early 1990s.
Kevin James was nice enough to send Comedy Cabaret a video endorsement which you can see on the home page of their website.
Saturday, April 5 marks the 38th anniversary!! The Comedy Cabaret will be celebrating by having a special four comic headliner event. Please visit www.ComedyCabaret.com for ticket information.
Comedy Cabaret is located at 625 N. Main Street in Doylestown on the 2nd floor of Poco’s Restaurant.
