Regional Rail riders have new schedules to check, beginning Sunday, July 5.
SEPTA representatives, in a news release, said the changes “include some notable improvements that will translate to more predictable and reliable service." A full list of adjustments and PDF schedules are available at septa.org/news/regional-rail-schedules.
Passengers should see longer trains, with more four-car setups to boost capacity, officials said. Timetables have been realigned to provide more consistent pairings between lines, according to SEPTA.
More trains will be going to Penn Medicine station, particularly from Doylestown, which will benefit from a 50% increase in direct trips to the University City hub. Express service has been simplified on the Lansdale/Doylestown and Media/Wawa lines, to make the system easier to navigate, transit officials added.
SEPTA leadership highlighted the authority’s progress in restoring Regional Rail reliability. The commuter rail network experienced major disruptions after federal regulators ordered SEPTA in October to thoroughly inspect its aging rail fleet in response to a series of train fires last year.
In late June, 98% of Regional Rail cars were available, compared to less than half in November, according to an online SEPTA dashboard. Authority representatives said 1% of trips were canceled in May, down from 7.5% in October.
